Welcome to
Sixth Grade !
___________________________________________________________
Homework Policy:
1. Homework Expectations:
· The school policy is 60 minutes per night in sixth grade. This will be my goal, so if homework is taking your child a much longer amount of time on a regular basis, please let me know. Please insure that your child is staying focused on their homework for that allotted time to provide me with further information.
· In addition to the maximum 60 minutes per night, students are required to read for a minimum of 20 minutes every night. Each week a reading contract or written response to reading sheet will be sent home to be completed and returned by Friday of that week.
· Students should bring home the necessary textbooks to support them as they complete their homework.
· Students should be completing their homework independently. Please monitor their progress while encouraging them to do their best. If they are struggling with an assignment, please write me a note to let me know.
· Homework should be completed neatly, in pencil, and labeled with name and date.
2. Late Homework:
· Late assignments receive -10% per day that they are late. A missing assignment notice will also be sent home to be returned the following day with a parental signature.
· If a student is absent, they will be given time to make up the work. They will be given one day for each day they were absent. I am willing to send home a packet of work to be picked up by a parent at the end of the day if a student is feeling up to it. If students need more time to make up assignments, this decision will be made on an individual basis.
3. Incomplete Work:
· Aside from long-term projects, I try not to assign homework on the weekends, however, if there is class work that has not been completed in the time given during the week, this work will become homework for the weekend. This is done in the best interest of the student, so they do not fall too far behind the rest of the class.
4. Homework Help:
· If students need help with homework, please call me at school or at home, write me a note, or approach me in school. I am always willing to help, so please ask if needed.
