2nd Grade Weekly Newsletter
Friday, June 11, 2010

Dear Families,

This was a great last full week of school! On Tuesday, we walked on the Otter Creek walking path with the 1st and 5th grades. We saw frogs and snakes and enjoyed eating lunch outside! On Wednesday, the school had a great field day! All of the children really loved the different stations, from water balloons, sharks and minnows, throwing water at each other and an obstacle course. At Mass today, we watched the 6th graders graduate from our school, where they will be missed greatly. This afternoon, we watched the movie Charlotte’s Web. As a class we began to clean out our desks and bring many things home, such as books, workbooks, note cards and many other things. This will be my last newsletter of the year.

I want to take a chance to thank all of you for everything you have done this year, whether it was coming in to watch presentations, making or donating things for our class, attending field trips and just for your support and allowing me to share this year with your child. I hope you have a wonderful summer and see you in the fall!

Miss Amanda Barone

Up-Coming Events

June

16th: Last Day of School

Our Week in Review

Math: This week we did a big review of all the things we learned this year! We reviewed clocks, trade-first subtraction, word problems, writing number sentences, sharing equal amounts, and many more things. We took our End of the Year Assessment and all of the children did great due to the reviewing we did.

Charlotte’s Web: This week we finished reading this classic story about friendship by watching the movie today. All the kids loved reading this book. We created farm scenes for our puppets and the kids were able to put on their own show from the story.

Dinosaurs: We learned about ancient reptiles that lived in the skies or in the oceans.

Religion: This week we talked about our Blessed Mother and how we honor her. The class also drew pictures of her. We discussed how God taught us how to respect and love each other. Grammar: As a class we reviewed nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, homophones, synonyms, adverbs, compound words and proper nouns.

Homework Policy

Homework packets will be given on Monday for the week.  I will include a sheet that explains what is to be done each night and should be handed in the following day.  For example, on Monday night your child might have Spelling Practice A and HomeLinks 1.1, this will be handed in on Tuesday morning.   Homework each night will be math and spelling and should take your child about 20 minutes.  Please let me know if it is taking longer.  Math will be a HomeLinks worksheet that goes along with the lesson from that day.  Spelling will either be a worksheet or writing activities.  On Thursday nights, the students will need to study for the spelling test on Friday.
Reading logs will be sent home on Monday and need to be filled our throughout the week.  There is a spot on the sheet for both you and your child to write their initials.  Each night your child should read for 10-20 minutes (more is even better).
